Q4 e-tron Climate Control Failure Signals Sensor Issues
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a climate control failure in a 2023 Q4 e-tron, where the automatic temperature control and AC stopped working, displaying error codes. The issue is suspected to be related to faulty interior temperature sensors. A similar problem in a 2021 Q4 Sportback e-tron was resolved by fixing a damaged wiring connection to the temperature sensor. However, the 2023 model's problem appears more severe, potentially involving multiple sensor failures, requiring a full HVAC sensor diagnostic and possibly replacing the main temperature sensor cluster. The repair is estimated to cost around 400 Euro.

Thanks for the feedback. Just had my last service at 95000 KM, so fairly recent. The error codes are P0533 and B2355, which seem to point to the HVAC sensor system. The AC control module is completely unresponsive now. Several climate control features are affected, including the auto temperature setting. Mine is the Advanced trim level. Based on your experience, it sounds similar but possibly more severe since the entire system is non-functional. The workshop costs here would likely be higher with parts and labor running close to 350 Euro. Did your climate regulation issues start gradually or suddenly? In my case, the system failed completely without warning.

Thanks for the additional details. In my case with the Q4 e-tron, the HVAC sensor issues started gradually over about a week. First noticed inconsistent temperature readings, then the auto climate control became erratic before failing completely. The error codes you mentioned (P0533, B2355) are different from what I encountered. My system showed P0532, which was specifically related to the wiring connection issue. Your codes suggest a more complex temperature control malfunction, possibly involving multiple sensor components in the climate control system. While my repair was straightforward and relatively inexpensive, your situation sounds more serious. Since your entire AC control module is unresponsive, the 350 Euro estimate seems reasonable. The temperature sensor network in these newer models is quite sophisticated, and when multiple sensors fail, it often requires more extensive repairs. The recent service at 95000 KM is interesting, did they perform any work on the climate control system? Sometimes sensor issues can develop after routine maintenance if the temperature control components were disturbed or reconnected improperly. Given the complete system failure, you might want to ask the workshop to check the main control module itself, not just the individual sensors. In these cases, a full system diagnostic usually reveals whether its a sensor cluster issue or a main unit problem.

Mine certainly seems more serious than your wiring issue. I reached out to the service center today and they confirmed they need to run a complete HVAC sensor diagnostic. They mentioned the temperature reading inconsistencies could indicate multiple failing sensors in the climate control system. The service department said they didnt work on any temperature control components during my recent maintenance. However, they noted that sensor failures are becoming a known issue in the 2023 models. The sensor replacement costs are unfortunately not covered under the basic warranty since its past 90000 KM. They quoted around 400 Euro for the full diagnosis and repair, slightly higher than my initial estimate. This includes replacing the main temperature sensor cluster and recalibrating the climate control system. Hoping this resolves the issue completely, as driving without a functioning AC system isnt ideal. Thanks again for sharing your experience. It helped me better understand what to expect with these sensor-related climate control problems.

Had a similar temperature control issue with my 2021 Q4 Sportback e-tron. Noticed the climate regulation system acting up, with unreliable temperature readings and the AC not responding. After some basic sensor diagnostics, my workshop found that the temperature sensor wiring harness had a damaged connection near the main plug. The climate control system was getting incorrect readings, causing the whole temperature control system to malfunction. The fix involved replacing the faulty wiring and reconnecting the sensor properly. Total repair cost was 95 Euro, mostly labor since it was just a connection issue. The whole process took about 2 hours. What trim level is your Q4? Also, are you getting any specific error codes? This would help identify if its the same sensor issues I experienced. The temperature sensor problems can manifest differently across model years and configurations. Have moderate experience with EV climate systems, but would definitely recommend getting a proper diagnostic scan to pinpoint the exact sensor malfunction before attempting any fixes.
