Thanks for sharing your experience. I had almost the same issue with my Q5 brake system. When the warning light showed up and the brake pedal got spongy, I was quite concerned. The master cylinder replacement along with a complete brake fluid change fixed it completely. Did you have any other issues pop up since the repair? Also, could you share roughly how much you paid for the complete fix? This info might be helpful since I heard repair costs for these brake system problems can vary quite a bit between shops.

Since my initial repair, everything has been working perfectly with no brake system issues. The brake pedal response is firm and consistent, exactly how it should be. The brake fluid level low warning hasnt returned since the fix, confirming the repair was done right. The total cost for my repair came to 480 Euro, which covered worn brake components and labor. This included a complete brake system inspection, fluid replacement, and ensuring all brake lines were properly bled. While it wasnt cheap, the peace of mind knowing the brake system is functioning correctly was worth it. Regular brake inspections are now part of my maintenance routine to catch any potential issues early. Its much better to address brake system problems proactively rather than waiting for warning lights or performance issues to surface. Speaking of maintenance, make sure to keep an eye on your brake fluid level even after repairs. A properly functioning system should maintain its fluid level without issues.

After getting multiple recommendations, I finally took my Q5 to a different mechanic last week. The diagnosis confirmed exactly what was suspected, air in the hydraulic brakes and a failing master cylinder. The brake lines were thoroughly inspected and thankfully were in good condition. The repair bill came to 520 Euro total, which covered: New master cylinder, Complete fluid replacement, System bleeding, Labor costs The brake pedal is now firm and responsive again. No more warning light issues since the fix. What a relief to have proper braking power back. The new shop did a great job explaining the whole process and showing me the worn parts. Going to stick with regular brake system checks from now on. Learned my lesson about not ignoring those early warning signs. The peace of mind from having safe, reliable brakes is definitely worth the maintenance cost.

Recently dealt with similar brake pedal issues on my A4 2012 gasoline model. The symptoms were nearly identical, spongy brake pedal and decreased responsiveness. The inspection revealed air in the hydraulic brake system, which required a complete brake fluid flush and replacement. The master cylinder was also showing signs of internal wear, allowing air to enter the brake lines. This is a serious safety concern that needs immediate attention. The repair involved: Complete brake system flush, Master cylinder replacement, Brake line inspection, Brake fluid replacement, System bleeding to remove all air While the brake fluid level being low is a symptom, its often an indicator of bigger underlying issues. The master cylinder failure was causing fluid loss and air infiltration into the brake lines. This isnt a repair to postpone, as brake system integrity directly affects vehicle safety. The symptoms you describe match what could be failing brake lines or a deteriorating master cylinder. A proper inspection should include pressure testing of the complete hydraulic brake system to identify any potential leaks or component failures.
