Thanks for sharing your experience with the steering sensor issue. I had nearly identical symptoms with my Q5 last year and ended up needing the sensor replacement too. The stiff steering and feedback problems went away completely after fixing it. Getting that second opinion really helped me avoid unnecessary repairs. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you paid for your sensor replacement and alignment? Also has everything stayed working properly since the repair? Its always good to know if these fixes tend to last.

Had the repair done last month, the electronic stability system is working perfectly now. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed just the steering angle sensor causing the issues, no major steering column work needed. Total cost came to 195 Euro for the sensor coding and calibration. The traction control and alignment problems completely cleared up after the fix. No more stiff steering or irregular feedback. The mechanic explained that faulty angle sensors often trigger multiple warning lights and affect various systems, but its usually a straightforward fix once properly diagnosed. Been driving daily since the repair and everything has stayed perfectly aligned with no issues. Definitely worth getting it fixed right away rather than risking further complications. The diagnostic testing was thorough and caught the exact issue without any unnecessary additional work.

Thanks everyone for the help and advice. Finally got my Q5 sorted last week. Found a different shop that actually took the time to properly diagnose the issue. Just like suggested, they ran full diagnostics first and confirmed it was the steering angle sensor. Total bill came to 220 Euro for the sensor replacement and calibration. They also did a quick alignment check as part of the service. Much better than the 800 Euro estimate my old shop gave for supposedly needed steering column repairs. Car drives perfectly now, no more shaking or stiff steering. The alignment problems and irregular feedback completely disappeared after the sensor replacement. Really glad I asked here first and avoided getting overcharged for unnecessary work. Been driving it daily for about a week now and everything is working great. The automotive sensors in these cars can be tricky, but finding a shop that knows what theyre doing makes all the difference.

A faulty steering angle sensor caused similar symptoms on my 2012 Audi A4 2.0T. The wheel became noticeably stiff and had irregular feedback, matching these alignment problems. The automotive sensors in modern vehicles are quite sensitive, and when they malfunction, it can affect multiple systems. After diagnostic testing, it turned out the steering angle sensor needed recalibration and sensor replacement rather than a complete steering column overhaul. The repair involved removing the steering wheel, replacing the sensor unit, and performing a proper wheel alignment afterward. The entire process took about 3 hours. This is typically not a severe issue if addressed promptly, but ignoring it can lead to premature tire wear and potentially unsafe driving conditions. The key is ensuring the shop performs a thorough diagnostic check before suggesting any major steering column repairs. Make sure they specifically check: Steering angle sensor calibration, Power steering fluid levels, Wheel alignment measurements, Electrical connections to the sensor Its worth getting a second opinion if the shop immediately suggests extensive repairs without proper diagnostics first.
