Thanks for sharing your experience. My situation got resolved but cost quite a bit, wondering what the repair bill was in your case? The automatic locks started working properly after they replaced the entire door wiring and the door sensor unit. The mechanic mentioned the contact signal was inconsistent due to corrosion buildup in the connectors. Did you notice any other electrical quirks showing up after getting yours fixed?

Really glad the automatic locks got sorted out for you. After my repair, everything has been working perfectly with no further electrical issues popping up. The faulty door contact signal that was troubling my car completely disappeared after the mechanic fixed a damaged cable connection in the wiring harness. The total cost for my repair came to 95 Euro, which included diagnosing and fixing the connection issue. This was much more reasonable than having to replace the entire door latch mechanism or wiring harness. The car alarm system also started working normally again once they sorted out the connection. Interesting that your problem was caused by corroded connectors, mine was just a loose connection that needed proper reseating and securing. These electrical issues can be tricky to diagnose but usually have straightforward fixes once the root cause is identified.

Thanks everyone for your input. After seeing the responses, I took my Q7 to a different mechanic who specialized in electrical issues. The repair took about 3 hours and cost 320 Euro. They found that the previous work had actually pinched part of the wiring harness, which gradually damaged the door sensor cables. The mechanic showed me where the contact signal was failing due to the damaged wires. They ended up replacing the complete door wiring assembly and installing a new door switch. The car alarm is now working properly too, which I hadn't even realized was affected. Much better experience this time around, no more issues with the central locking system since the repair was completed last week. Lesson learned about being more careful about who works on complex electrical systems.

Had a similar problem with my 2013 Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI. The door sensor stopped responding correctly, affecting both central locking and the car alarm system. The issue started after some electrical work. The root cause turned out to be a damaged door switch wiring harness. The protective sleeve had worn through, causing intermittent contact issues. The door latch movement you describe matches what I experienced, mechanical parts working but electrical signals not being transmitted. This was a serious electrical issue that required complete replacement of the affected door wiring harness. The damaged cables were causing false signals to the central locking system. A full diagnostic scan revealed multiple error codes related to the door sensor communication. Given your history of previous wiring work, recommend having the door sensor connections and harness inspected. The symptoms strongly suggest either a loose connector or damaged wiring rather than a failed door switch itself. These electrical issues can potentially affect other systems if left unaddressed.
