Q8 Suspension Warning: Active Damping System Alert

My Q8 from 2020 (119575km, gas) started acting up recently. The ride feels bumpy and uncomfortable, plus I got a warning light on the dash along with some error code stored. Pretty sure its a suspension issue with the damping adjustment. Had a bad experience with my usual mechanic before, so looking for recommendations on where to get this fixed. Anyone dealt with similar suspension system problems on their Q8? What was the diagnosis and how much did the repair cost? Would really appreciate some guidance since these active shock absorber systems can be tricky.

Had the same suspension issue on my Q7 from 2017. The symptoms match exactly, rough ride comfort and warning lights indicating damping control problems. The main culprit turned out to be corroded wiring connectors at the shock absorber units. The active damping system stopped receiving proper signals, causing the car handling to deteriorate. The mechanic found water damage had affected the connector pins, disrupting communication between the control module and shock absorbers. The fix required replacing the wiring harness and connectors for the suspension components. This was definitely a serious repair job since the entire system needed proper diagnostic testing after the replacement to ensure all shock absorber units were communicating correctly. Important to note, leaving this unaddressed can lead to premature wear of suspension components and continued poor ride quality. Once fixed, the car handling returned to normal with proper damping control across all driving modes. For reference, get the error codes checked first. If its connector-related like mine was, ensure they replace all affected wiring, not just clean the connections. The active suspension system needs all components working perfectly to maintain proper car damping characteristics.

Thanks for sharing your experience with this suspension failure issue. What you described with the wiring harness matches my symptoms perfectly. Just had my Audi in the shop last week for the same damping control problem. Still waiting to see if everything is sorted since the repair. Quick question, do you remember roughly what the total cost was for your shock absorber repair? Also wondering if youve had any other suspension system issues pop up since getting it fixed?

Had good news after my suspension repair, the damping adjustment fault has been completely resolved. The mechanic found and fixed a faulty cable connection to one of the shock absorber units, which was causing the vehicle suspension warnings. Total cost was 95 Euro for the wiring repair and diagnostic work. The ride quality is back to normal now with the suspension system working as intended. No more warning lights or rough handling issues since the fix. Been about 8 months now and havent experienced any other suspension related problems. The active damping control is responding perfectly across all driving modes. Worth mentioning that catching these suspension issues early helped avoid more expensive repairs down the line. When the shock absorber wiring starts failing, it can lead to more serious component damage if left unchecked. Regular checks of the suspension system connectors is now part of my maintenance routine.

After reading through the helpful responses, I wanted to share an update on my suspension tuning situation. Finally got the car back from the shop yesterday, turns out the diagnosis was spot on about the wiring issue affecting the damping control. The mechanic found water damage on multiple suspension connectors, plus one completely corroded harness that was disrupting the shock absorber signals. Total repair came to 780 Euro including parts, labor and full system diagnostics. More than I hoped but less than I feared for vehicle suspension work. The ride quality has improved dramatically, no more warning lights or rough handling. The suspension damping feels properly controlled again, just like when the car was new. Really glad I got this fixed before it led to bigger problems. Will definitely keep a closer eye on the suspension system maintenance going forward. Thanks again for the advice. Having your experience to reference helped me better understand what I was dealing with and made me more confident about the repair process.
