Qashqai ABS Traction Problem

I've got a 2007 Nissan Qashqai with a diesel engine and about 51494 km on the clock. Recently, the ABS lamp lights up intermittently, and I'm experiencing some traction problems. It feels like the ABS system is failing. Could this be related to a faulty speed input signal? Any thoughts?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Nissan Qashqai is experiencing intermittent ABS light activation and traction problems, suggesting a potential ABS system failure. The issue might be related to a faulty speed input signal, although the speedometer is functioning correctly. A similar case was resolved by replacing a defective ABS control unit, which is recommended as a likely solution. It is advised to have the vehicle professionally scanned and repaired to address the problem.

Whoa, that sounds eerily familiar! I had a similar experience with my Qashqai. ABS light flashing, traction control going haywire... it's not fun, let me tell you! Was the speedometer acting up at all? Because if the car thinks it's going zero miles an hour when it's not, that could definitely mess with the ABS and traction control.

Thanks for the reply! No, the speedometer seems to be working just fine, which is even more confusing. Do you know what was causing the problem in your case? What did you have to do to get it fixed?

Okay, speedometer working rules out a totally dead speed sensor, but it could still be sending a wonky signal. In my case, it turned out to be a defective ABS control unit. I had to get it replaced; big ouch to the wallet. Honestly, with those symptoms and the speedometer working, I'd say get it scanned by a professional. An affected control unit is most likely defective and this could be serious. I suggest taking it to a trusted workshop as soon as possible!

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! Sounds like I'm heading for a similar repair. I'll book it in with a workshop to get the control unit checked and probably replaced; they estimated around 1000€ for the work. Hopefully, that'll sort it out. Thanks again for your help!
