Qashqai AdBlue error no start

Hi, I have a 2020 Nissan Qashqai, diesel engine. I keep getting an error message in the speedometer about AdBlue, and the error is stored in the memory. Now the engine won't even start. I'm guessing the AdBlue tank is empty. Could this be the reason? Anyone had this issue?

Hello there! I remember facing a similar predicament with my old Peugeot 308, even though the car and brand are completely different. It turned out that the whole issue was, in fact, related to the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) system, which, as you know, is also known as AdBlue. When the level is critically low, or the system detects a malfunction, it throws a tantrum by displaying warning lights and eventually preventing the engine from starting to ensure emission standards are met. I'd recommend you to check the output from the tank to the dosing unit, but do you know how much AdBlue is actually in the tank?

Thanks for the quick reply! I have no idea about the AdBlue level. I just assumed it was empty because of the error. How can I check the output myself?

Well, unfortunately, checking the output isn't straightforward without proper diagnostic tools. You'd need to access the system, and honestly, messing with it without the right knowledge could cause more problems. Given the symptoms – dashboard alert, error codes, and now a no-start situation – it is highly likely to be a defective Ad-Blue output from tank to dosing unit. You should consider taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed and repaired. They can accurately assess the AdBlue level, check for any leaks or blockages in the system, and pinpoint the exact cause of the problem. It's definitely worth it to avoid further damage, especially to the diesel particulate filter. I hope this helps!

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were right. The AdBlue output was defective, and the mechanic said that was preventing the car from starting. Repair cost was around 250€. Everything is fixed now. Thanks again!
