Qashqai DPF exhaust pressure too low
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Nissan Qashqai diesel exhibited symptoms of power loss, smoke on acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell, accompanied by a 'diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure too low' error. The issue was suspected to be related to the exhaust back pressure sensor. After replacing the defective sensor, all symptoms were resolved, confirming it as the core problem.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't checked for leaks, but the DPF looks OK. So, what fixed it on your Insignia? Was it just a faulty sensor, or something more complex?

In my case, after an extensive diagnosis, it turned out to be a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor combined with a partially clogged DPF. While replacing the sensor did improve the situation, the underlying issue of the partially blocked DPF remained. If I were you, I would perhaps have a professional workshop take a closer look to ascertain the precise nature and scope of the problem to avoid similar problems down the line.

Thanks. I appreciate the advice. Turns out it was a defective exhaust back pressure sensor. Replaced it and all symptoms disappeared. Total cost was 245€.

That sounds familiar. I experienced something similar with my 2016 Opel Insignia, also diesel. Symptoms were almost identical – reduced power, noticeable smoke, and a concerning odor. The error codes I received pointed towards issues within the emission control system. Are you certain about the sensor being the sole culprit? Have you checked for any exhaust leaks or damage to the DPF itself? Those could also contribute to low exhaust pressure readings.
