Qashqai Start Stop Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Nissan Qashqai hybrid experienced a fault with its start-stop system, indicated by a warning light on the dashboard. The issue was suspected to be related to the battery, as the start-stop system requires a healthy battery to function properly. After checking, it was confirmed that the battery was heavily discharged and defective. Replacing the battery resolved the issue, restoring the start-stop system's functionality.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't checked the voltage myself. When you say 'at rest', do you mean after the car has been sitting unused for a while?

Indeed. 'At rest' refers to the battery voltage after the vehicle has been stationary for a considerable period, typically several hours, allowing any surface charge to dissipate. The specified voltage must be verified with a multimeter. If this is not the case, it is best to seek out a trusted workshop.

Ok, thanks. I took it to the workshop and the battery was indeed heavily discharged and defective. Replaced it for 290€ and it seems to be working fine now.

It sounds like your Qashqai is presenting a common symptom related to the start-stop system. The start-stop system relies on a healthy battery to function correctly. When the battery's state of charge diminishes, the system will often disable itself to conserve power for essential functions, leading to such a dashboard warning. However, have you considered the possibility of a faulty starter motor? The starter motor is responsible for cranking the engine during restarts, and any malfunction there could also trigger the warning you are seeing. Also, have you checked the battery's voltage, both at rest and while the engine is running? This will give us more insight on the issue.
