Quest belt tensioner failure
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Nissan Quest experienced a belt tensioner failure at 167,118 km, causing a slipping sound, particularly during cold starts. The issue was identified as a defective belt tensioner and a worn idler pulley bearing, which was not visibly damaged but failed to maintain proper belt tension. The suggested solution was to have a workshop inspect and repair the components, which resolved the problem.

Yes, there's a slipping sound, especially during cold starts. Was the idler pulley visibly damaged, or how did you diagnose it?

No visible damage. The bearing inside was shot, so it wasn’t keeping the belt tight. Like a wobbly wheel on a shopping cart! Honestly, get a workshop to take a look. Could save you headaches.

Appreciate the advice! The belt tensioner was defective, and the idler pulley wasn't in great shape either. Repair cost came to 455€. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I have a Quest too. Sounds familiar. Is it making a weird, slipping sound? Check your idler pulley too – that was part of my problem.
