Summary of the thread
A 2010 Nissan Quest exhibited a 'Crankshaft to Camshaft Reference Value' error, leading to reduced power, poor response, and increased fuel consumption. The issue was suspected to be related to the timing belt but was identified as a faulty crankshaft sensor. Replacing the defective sensor resolved the problem, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Thank you for your suggestion. Could you please elaborate on how the crankshaft sensor might affect the camshaft reference value? I am trying to understand the underlying mechanism before taking any action.

The crankshaft sensor and camshaft sensor work together to tell the engine control unit (ECU) the exact position of the crankshaft and camshaft. If the crankshaft sensor is faulty, it sends incorrect signals to the ECU, which then misinterprets the camshaft position, hence the reference value error. Honestly, I would just take it to a workshop to have it checked, I ended up doing that after messing around for too long.

I appreciate the detailed explanation and the advice. I took your suggestion and had a mechanic inspect the crankshaft sensor. Turns out it was indeed defective and causing the reference error. The repair, including parts and labor, came out to be 340€. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!

I had a similar problem with my Quest. I remember the reduced power and the check engine light driving me crazy. Have you checked the crankshaft sensor? It can cause those symptoms and throw off the timing reference.
