Quest NOx Catalyst Aging
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Nissan Quest is experiencing a check engine light with an error indicating NOx storage catalyst aging, potentially linked to an exhaust leak. The leak might accelerate the catalyst's degradation, but the error suggests a failing catalytic converter. It is recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to address the issue effectively.

Thanks. I haven't listened for hissing, but the exhaust leak could sound like that. Are you saying the leak isn't the main problem, but a result of the catalyst failing? Did you also get the NOx storage error?

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. I had the same NOx error. It's probably better to get it checked out by a professional. A leak could cause the catalyst to degrade quicker but the error code clearly points to a faulty component. Save yourself the headache and take it to a workshop.

Understood. Thanks for sharing your experience and confirming the link between the exhaust issue and the NOx catalyst fault. I'll book an appointment with a workshop for a checkup and repairs. I think it will cost about 265€. Thanks again.

I have a Nissan Quest myself, and I had similar symptoms. It sounds like your catalytic converter is going bad. Any hissing noises under the car when it's running?
