R Klasse Car Overheating Problem

My 2005 Mercedes R Klasse with a gasoline engine is overheating and the check engine light is on The radiator fan doesn't seem to be working correctly I think it might be a bad speed sensor Has anyone else had cooling system issues maybe with the fan motor the fan blades or the thermal switch

I had a similar overheating problem with my R Klasse The cooling system fan was the issue The fan would work sometimes and then stop Did you check the fan motor relay It's a cheap part and easy to replace yourself before you replace the whole fan

Thanks for the suggestion I'll check the fan motor relay What symptoms did you have Did the car overheat mostly when idling or when driving Also did your check engine light come on

My car overheated more when idling especially in traffic When driving there seemed to be enough airflow to keep the temperature down Yes the check engine light came on and showed a cooling system problem After checking a few things I took it to a shop They said it was a bad fan control module which controls the fan speed based on engine temperature I'd suggest you do the same

Thanks for the advice I had the car checked at a shop and they said the speed sensor in the fan assembly was bad The total cost to fix it was 250€ Replacing the radiator fan fixed the overheating and the check engine light is off Thanks again for the help with the cooling system and fan motor
