Ractis Automatic Transmission Problems

I'm seriously bummed. My 2007 Toyota Ractis with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. The automatic transmission seems to think 'Park' is optional. Sometimes it won't start, the check engine light is on, and the gearbox feels like it's having a seizure when shifting. My cheap OBD reader is throwing some generic transmission error. Anyone else seen anything like this? Could it be the shift lock?

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my Ractis. Engine wouldn't start sometimes, and the gear shifter felt loose. Have you checked the error memory?

Yeah, that OBD thingy spit out a code, but it wasn't very specific, just something about a transmission error. Was your code similarly vague? And did the check engine light come on for you as well?

Yep, generic code and check engine light. Turned out to be a faulty control unit. Cost me a fortune to fix at a workshop. Honestly, I'd recommend getting it professionally diagnosed.

Ugh, that's what I feared. Thanks for the heads-up! I'll bite the bullet and take it in. Looks like about 1000€ for the repair, apparently the affected control unit is defective.
