Random Engine Shutoffs & Start-Stop Failures in Amarok

My engine out of nowhere shuts off while driving and the start-stop system seems faulty. The check engine light is on and there is an error code stored. This happens even when eco mode is disabled. Anyone else experiencing similar issues? Running a 2020 Amarok with gasoline engine at 111002km. Looking for advice before visiting the mechanic, my last repair experience wasnt great.

Had similar battery issues with a 2017 VW Golf TSI. The unusual engine shutoffs while driving turned out to be more serious than just a faulty start-stop system. When the automatic restart fails repeatedly, it often points to a failing battery rather than the idle stop mechanism itself. The check engine light in these cases typically indicates the car is protecting itself from voltage drops. The repair required: Full battery diagnostic test, Replacement of main battery, Reset of the battery management system, Clearing fault codes, Testing the alternator output The battery was heavily discharged beyond recovery. This affected multiple systems since modern cars need stable voltage for proper operation. The hybrid vehicle components that manage the start-stop functionality are especially sensitive to battery health. Worth getting checked soon, driving with an unstable electrical system can cause damage to other components. The alternator works harder trying to compensate for the weak battery, which can lead to premature failure. The symptoms match a severe battery issue rather than just a start-stop malfunction. Would recommend having it diagnosed properly at a shop that specializes in electrical systems.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I faced nearly identical issues with my Amarok last winter. When my engine start began failing out of nowhere, I also thought it was just the start-stop system acting up. The battery diagnostic revealed the same root cause you described. Have you noticed any other electrical issues since the repair was completed? Also, would you mind sharing what the total cost was for fixing everything? My repair bill was quite high and Im curious how it compares.

Just got the repairs done last week and can confirm everything is working perfectly now. The start-stop system functions as intended and all unusual engine shutoffs have completely stopped. The battery replacement fixed both issues simultaneously. The total cost came to 290€, which included a new high-performance battery, diagnostic testing, and resetting all the systems. While not cheap, it was worth it to restore proper functionality and prevent potential damage to the starter motor and other electrical components. No other electrical issues have appeared since the repair. The car starts reliably every time, and all electronic systems maintain stable power. The mechanic explained that a heavily discharged battery can affect multiple vehicle systems, so addressing it promptly was the right call. The eco mode and start-stop features now work flawlessly, the engine restarts smoothly at traffic lights without any hesitation. Its nice having confidence in the electrical system again, especially knowing that driving with a failing battery could have led to more expensive repairs down the line.

Took my Amarok to the repair shop last week after getting helpful advice here. The mechanic confirmed it was primarily a battery issue causing the unusual engine stalling and start-stop system failures. The repair process included: Complete electrical system diagnosis, New battery installation, System reset and code clearing, Start-stop system calibration Total cost was 320€, which seems reasonable given the comprehensive service. The automatic restart now works perfectly and no more unexpected engine shutoffs while driving. The check engine light is gone and all electrical systems are functioning normally. The mechanic explained that modern cars with start-stop technology need healthy batteries to operate properly. Going too long with a failing battery can damage the starter motor and other components. Glad I addressed it before facing more expensive repairs. Really appreciate the advice from everyone here, saved me from a potentially worse situation.
