Thanks for sharing your experience! My Rover just hit 74303 KM and had its last service about 3 months ago. The noise started about a week back, getting more noticeable during cold starts. Really appreciate the heads up about the oil pump, that's super helpful info! I'll definitely get it checked out ASAP before it turns into something worse. The cost you mentioned seems reasonable compared to potential engine damage. Think I'll call the workshop tomorrow morning.

Hey again! Thanks for those details, they're really helpful. Yep, those symptoms match my experience even more closely now. When my 2013 Range Rover Sport started making those noises during cold starts, it was definitely the oil pump beginning to fail. The timing of your symptoms (a week of noises) is actually good news, you've caught it early, unlike me who stubbornly drove around for nearly a month (bad idea, I know!). Since you mentioned the cold starts, here's something extra from my experience, try listening carefully when you first start the car in the morning. If you hear a sort of metallic rattling that goes away after 10-15 seconds, that's exactly what mine did before the repair. The metal particles in your oil are concerning though, might want to ask the workshop to check your bearings too, just to be safe. Mine had some minor bearing wear because I waited too long. Quick tip: when you take it in, ask them to do a proper oil pressure test. My mechanic showed me how the pressure was dropping below specs, especially at idle. That's what confirmed the pump issue. They might need to keep your car for a day or two, mine took about 36 hours total for the whole job. Let me know how it goes at the workshop! Really hope it's just the pump like mine was.

Thanks for all this detailed advice! I just listened carefully during this morning's cold start and noticed exactly what you described, that metallic rattling that settles after a few seconds. Actually feeling a bit relieved now knowing your similar experience, even though it's still worrying. Called the workshop and they can take it in tomorrow morning, they mentioned doing that oil pressure test you suggested. Really glad I didn't ignore these symptoms like I was tempted to! The bearing wear you mentioned has me concerned though. I'll definitely make sure they check those too when they're doing the inspection. They estimated about two days for the full diagnosis and repair, which sounds about right based on your experience. Quick question, after your repair, did you notice any immediate improvement in how the engine sounded? I'll keep you posted on what they find. Thanks again for all the helpful information, it's really made me feel more confident about handling this!

Hey there! I've got some experience working on luxury SUVs and actually dealt with something very similar on my 2013 Range Rover Sport Hybrid (I also own a Range Rover Velar). Those symptoms sound exactly like what I experienced, the metallic noise and particles in oil are big red flags. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty oil pump that was killing the oil pressure. Got it fixed at my trusted workshop after they did a thorough diagnostic. The whole thing, including parts and labor, set me back about 755 Euro but it was worth every cent because this issue can wreck your engine if ignored. Can you tell me: Current mileage? How long have you noticed the noise? When was your last oil change? This info would help me confirm if you're dealing with the same problem I had. Don't drive it much until you get it checked, these symptoms really shouldn't be ignored!
