Ranger AC and Sensor Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Ford Ranger exhibited issues with the AC not turning on and an error message on the speedometer, alongside a logged defect in the temperature sensor heat exchanger. The problem was traced to a faulty air conditioning control unit and a defective temperature sensor. Replacing these components resolved the issues, restoring normal function to the vehicle.

Coolant level seems fine, I checked that first. Are you saying a faulty sensor can stop the AC from working completely?

In my case, yes. The sensor malfunction was preventing the AC compressor from engaging. Considering the stored error and the symptoms, I would strongly recommend having a workshop inspect the air conditioning control unit. It could be defective.

Thanks for the advice. The workshop confirmed your suspicion: defective air conditioning control unit, also the temperature sensor heat exchanger was indeed faulty. Total cost 980€. Replaced both and everything is working as expected.

That sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, although the error code was different. The AC wouldn't kick in, and it turned out to be related to a sensor in the cooling system. Was the coolant level checked?
