Ranger AC Failure

Thanks for the quick reply! Undervoltage makes sense. Where exactly is the A/C relay located, and how would I test the voltage regulator? I'm not sure what tools I would need or what voltage range I should be seeing.

Ok, so the AC relay is usually in the main fuse box, often under the hood. The exact location should be in your owner's manual. As for testing the voltage regulator, that's a bit trickier. You'd need a multimeter and some understanding of electrical circuits. Honestly, if you're not comfortable with that, it might be best to take it to a workshop. They can diagnose it properly and avoid any potential damage. I eventually caved and took mine in, and that solved the problem completely!

Appreciate the advice! I'll check the relay location in the manual. After doing some research and remembering your advice, I took it to a shop, and it turned out to be an issue with the undervoltage, like you said. They replaced a faulty relay and the voltage regulator and fixed a ground issue for 240€. Everything's working perfectly now. Thanks again!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Ranger – though I can't recall the exact build year. The A/C would just randomly cut out. Did you check the voltage regulator? Sometimes undervoltage can cause the AC compressor to shut off. The AC relay is a good starting point but it could be more than just that.
