Ranger automatic transmission failure
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Ford Ranger diesel with 171,000 km is experiencing automatic transmission failure, indicated by the engine not starting in Park, a check engine light, and rough shifting. The issue is linked to a defective transmission control unit, as confirmed by an error code. The suggested solution is to have the control unit repaired or replaced by a professional workshop to prevent further damage.

Yeah, it feels like it's not fully engaging. Like there's some slack or play. And the error code points to the transmission control unit. Was your control unit also mentioned?

The code pointed to a similar control unit issue. I'd get it checked out by a workshop - sounds like the control unit is causing havoc. Best to get it sorted properly before it causes more damage.

Thanks for the advice. Dropped it at the shop, and you were spot on. Defective control unit. Quoted 1000€ for the repair. Appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Ranger, though I can't say I know much about diesel engines. Does it feel like it's not fully engaging in Park? Could be a dodgy transmission sensor, or something with the shift lock.
