Ranger auxiliary battery issue

Voltage drop, gotcha. I'll check that. But if it's not the battery itself, what else could cause it not to charge? Is there a specific relay or something that controls charging for the auxiliary battery that might be bad?

Yes, there are several possibilities beyond the battery itself. A faulty battery management system (BMS) module could prevent proper charging. There's also a chance of wiring issues – a loose connection or corroded cable can disrupt the charging circuit. Given the symptoms and your mileage (121843 km), it's wise to have the entire system checked by a qualified technician. They can perform a load test on the batteries and diagnose the charging system properly. It’s often difficult to pinpoint without the right diagnostic tools.

Okay, thanks for the advice. Sounds like it's more complicated than I thought. I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on – auxiliary battery wasn't charging. New battery and labor came to 290€. Appreciate the help!

Sounds like a potential auxiliary battery issue. The Ranger, depending on the trim, uses a dual-battery system. The error message and slow crank are consistent with a failing auxiliary battery. Have you checked the voltage on both batteries, especially after the truck has been sitting overnight? A significant voltage drop points to a battery problem. It could also be related to the charging system; the alternator might not be properly charging both batteries.
