Ranger cylinder pressure fluctuation

I have a 2016 Ford Ranger, diesel engine, with around 51799 km on the clock. I've noticed some cylinder pressure fluctuation recently, accompanied by higher fuel consumption and reduced engine power. The check engine light keeps appearing. I initially suspected a spark plug or fuel injector issue, but after checking both, they seem fine. Could it be something more serious like a timing belt problem or even the turbocharger?

I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 Series. Same symptoms – higher fuel consumption, engine felt sluggish, and that dreaded check engine light. I was chasing shadows for weeks, suspecting everything from the MAF sensor to a vacuum leak. Did you check for any unusual engine knocking?

Thanks for sharing your experience! Engine knocking wasn't something I specifically looked for. Was that the key to solving your BMW issue, or was there something else that pointed you in that direction?

Well, the engine knocking wasn't directly the cause, but it led me down the right path. It turned out to be a whole chain of consequential errors stemming from a faulty sensor. My advice? Get it to a decent workshop. They'll run diagnostics that are far beyond what you can do at home.

Took your advice and went to the shop. Turns out it was a domino effect like you said. They reset some sensor values and fixed a minor wiring issue. No parts needed, so the repair cost was 0€. Thanks for your help!
