Ranger cylinder pressure fluctuation
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Ford Ranger with a diesel engine is experiencing cylinder pressure fluctuation, higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, and a persistent check engine light. Initial suspicions of spark plug or fuel injector issues were ruled out. The problem was resolved by resetting sensor values and fixing a minor wiring issue, with no parts needing replacement.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Engine knocking wasn't something I specifically looked for. Was that the key to solving your BMW issue, or was there something else that pointed you in that direction?

Well, the engine knocking wasn't directly the cause, but it led me down the right path. It turned out to be a whole chain of consequential errors stemming from a faulty sensor. My advice? Get it to a decent workshop. They'll run diagnostics that are far beyond what you can do at home.

Took your advice and went to the shop. Turns out it was a domino effect like you said. They reset some sensor values and fixed a minor wiring issue. No parts needed, so the repair cost was 0€. Thanks for your help!

I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 Series. Same symptoms – higher fuel consumption, engine felt sluggish, and that dreaded check engine light. I was chasing shadows for weeks, suspecting everything from the MAF sensor to a vacuum leak. Did you check for any unusual engine knocking?
