Ranger heavy steering vibration

My 2017 Ford Ranger, gasoline engine, has almost 200k km on the clock and the steering feels heavy, like the power steering is failing. The wheel is vibrating like crazy. I suspect a faulty steering angle sensor. Could it be the coding, or is the sensor dead? It's driving me nuts!

Sounds rough! I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 series. Steering got heavy, and the traction control light was going bonkers. It turned out to be a faulty steering angle sensor. It’s like when your phone’s GPS goes haywire.

Whoa, BMW, huh? That's interesting. Traction control light wasn't involved in my case. Just heavy steering and vibration. Did you fix it yourself, or did you take it to a shop? How did you pinpoint the sensor as the culprit?

Nah, I didn’t touch it myself. Too many tiny parts and sensitive electronics for my liking! I ended up taking it to a shop. They hooked it up to their diagnostics machine and confirmed the steering angle sensor was throwing errors. They replaced it and recalibrated the system. Problem solved. Just take it to the workshop, it's not worth doing it yourself.

Thanks for the advice! I booked it in with a mechanic and got it checked out. It WAS the steering angle sensor. The coding was faulty. I got it sorted for 195€. Happy to be back on the road, steering like a dream again!
