Ranger Intake Air Temperature Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Ford Ranger diesel is experiencing a check engine light and reduced engine power, with a diagnostic tool indicating a fault in the intake air temperature sensor. The sensor is providing consistently low temperature readings, even when the engine is warm, suggesting it may be defective. The recommended solution is to have a mechanic confirm the diagnosis and replace the sensor, which resolved the issue and restored the vehicle's performance.

Thanks for the quick response! The temperature reading seems consistently low, even when the engine is warm. I'm wondering if it's worth trying to replace the intake air temperature sensor myself, or should I just take it to a mechanic?

If the reading is consistently low, that definitely points to a defective intake air temperature sensor. Honestly, based on my experience and error messages, I would recommend going to a workshop. It's not a super complicated fix, but they can confirm the diagnosis and replace the sensor properly. Plus, they can clear the error codes. In my case it was exactly the same. It costed 155€.

Okay, I appreciate the advice. I'll take it to a shop and have them take a look. Turns out you were spot on - it was indeed a faulty intake air temperature sensor! They replaced it, cleared the codes, and my Ranger is back to running smoothly. Thanks again for your help!

Reduced power and a check engine light? Sounds familiar. I've had similar problems with my Ranger. What kind of temperature reading are you getting from the sensor? Is it way off, or just fluctuating wildly? Could be a faulty air sensor, but it's always good to check the basics first.
