Ranger knocking combustion
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Ford Ranger with a gasoline engine is experiencing knocking combustion, reduced engine power, jerking during acceleration, and smoke, with a fault stored in the error memory. The core problem is suspected to be deposits in the combustion chamber. The suggested solution is to visit a reputable workshop to address the issue, as knocking combustion can lead to serious engine damage if not resolved. The workshop confirmed the presence of deposits and resolved the issue.

The smoke does seem to have a stronger smell than usual. Piston slap, I'm not sure. But the engine knock is definitely there, especially when accelerating. What did you do about it?

Sounds very familiar. Based on those symptoms, and if you're not comfortable tackling engine work yourself, I'd strongly recommend a visit to a reputable workshop. Knocking combustion can lead to serious engine damage if left unchecked.

Thanks. Ended up taking it to the workshop. They confirmed deposits in the combustion chamber. Cost me 425€ to resolve.

I had similar symptoms with my Ranger! Detonation and pre-ignition can really mess things up. Any chance you've been hearing something that sounds like piston slap, especially when the engine is under load? Does the smoke smell particularly bad?
