RAV4 Airbag Warning Lamp Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Toyota RAV4 owner experienced an issue with the airbag warning lamp lighting up. The problem likely stemmed from a loose connection under the dashboard, possibly caused by recent radio installation work. It was suggested to check for wiring issues, particularly around areas disturbed during the installation. Ultimately, a professional inspection confirmed a loose connection, which was resolved at a local workshop.

No accidents, thankfully. But you're right, I did replace the radio a few weeks ago, and I remember having to unplug a few things under the dashboard. Could that have something to do with it? Where exactly are the crash sensors located in the RAV4?

Yep, messing with the wiring under the dash could definitely be the culprit. It's easy to accidentally loosen a connection. Crash sensors are usually located behind the front bumper, in the doors, and under the seats. Honestly, with airbag systems, it's best to get it checked out by a professional, especially if you suspect a wiring issue. Playing around with those systems can be risky. Considering it's likely just a loose wire, the overall effort of self-inspection may be too high.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice! I took it to a local workshop, and you were spot on – it turned out to be a loose connection under the dashboard from when I installed the radio. They charged me 95€ to fix it, so I'm glad it wasn't anything major!

Hey, yeah, airbag lights are a pain. It could be a number of things, from a faulty sensor to a wiring issue like you said. Has the car been in any minor accidents lately, even a small bump can trigger it? Also, has it had any work done recently that might have involved disconnecting or reconnecting anything related to the restraint system?
