RAV4 Camshaft Sensor Fault

I own a 2003 Toyota RAV4 with a gasoline engine. Recently, I've experienced poor starting, reduced engine power, and the error memory shows a camshaft sensor fault. I've checked the sensor's cable and plug connection for any obvious defects. Could this be the definitive cause?

I had similar symptoms on my RAV4 (though it's a later model). It sounds like it could be a camshaft position sensor issue, especially given the error code. Did you notice any rough idling or stalling before the other symptoms appeared?

Thank you for your response. I did notice some instances of rough idling intermittently. Does this observation solidify your suspicion of the camshaft sensor being defective? Have you experienced the error yourself?

Yes, the rough idling definitely points towards it. I experienced similar issues after I had disregarded the error; I would recommend getting it checked out. Consider visiting a workshop that can perform specific diagnostic tests. It could prevent further damage.

I appreciate your insights. Based on your advice and confirming my suspicion, I took the RAV4 to a workshop and had the camshaft sensor wiring repaired for 95€. The issues are now resolved.
