RAV4 Exhaust Temperature Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Toyota RAV4 experienced a check engine light, reduced engine power, and increased fuel consumption, with an OBD scan indicating a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. The issue was traced to a small crack in the exhaust manifold, which affected the sensor's readings. Repairing the exhaust manifold and replacing the sensor resolved the problem, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Interesting! Was it actually the sensor itself that was faulty, or was something else causing it to read incorrectly? Could the exhaust leak mess with the sensor's readings, even if the sensor itself is technically 'working'?

Honestly, I'm not sure exactly what was going on. The garage diagnosed it and replaced the sensor, and that fixed it. But, yeah, they said it was likely something in the exhaust triggering it. I would definitely take it to a trusted workshop!

Thanks for the input! Took it to the shop as you suggested. Turns out there was a small crack in the exhaust manifold, causing the sensor to go haywire. New sensor and exhaust manifold repair later, and she's running great again. Cost me 265€, but worth it to get back to normal!

Dude, that sounds familiar! I had almost the EXACT same thing happen with my old Opel Astra, but it was the O2 sensor. Same symptoms though – limp mode, guzzling gas, the whole shebang! Was a nightmare!
