RAV4 Keyless Entry Fails
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Toyota RAV4 owner experienced issues with the keyless entry system, preventing remote locking/unlocking and requiring the key to start the engine. The problem was suspected to be related to the bumper antenna. Another individual suggested inspecting the cable and plug connections, as a defective or corroded connector could cause such issues. The owner later confirmed that a defective connector was replaced, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! By 'cable and plug connections,' are we talking about something I can easily get to and check myself, or is it more involved than that? Any specific spots I should be looking at first?

In my case, it turned out to be a corroded connector. While you might be able to visually inspect it, I would recommend having a workshop take a look. The error memory should be read out in any case. My repair cost was around 95€.

I appreciate the advice. I'll take it to a shop to get it checked out, but at least I have an idea of what to tell them to look for. I am grateful. It was indeed a defective connector, which was replaced. All good now!

I had similar symptoms on my RAV4. I would advise inspecting the cable and plug connections related to the antenna. A defective connection could certainly cause those issues.
