RAV4 oil pressure warning

I have a 2011 Toyota RAV4 diesel with 101394 km on the clock. Recently, the oil pressure warning lamp has been lighting up, accompanied by some pretty loud mechanical noises coming from the engine. I suspect it might be low engine oil pressure. I checked the oil level and it's fine. I'm leaning towards a defect in the oil pump itself, but I'm open to suggestions before I start tearing things apart. Has anyone experienced this?

I had a similar issue with my RAV4. Same symptoms: oil pressure light and engine noise. Did you check the oil filter? A clogged filter can cause low pressure. Also, what oil viscosity are you using?

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't checked the oil filter yet, but I did replace the oil recently and made sure to use the correct viscosity according to the manual. But if the oil filter is the problem, will the symptoms be exactly the same?

In my case, the symptoms were identical. Turned out my oil pump was failing and I had to take it to the workshop to get it repaired. It is better to get it checked professionally.

Appreciate the input. I'll get the oil pump checked out. I took it to the workshop. You were right: the oil pump had to be replaced. The repair came to 755€. Thanks again!
