RAV4 oil pressure warning
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Toyota RAV4 diesel owner reported an oil pressure warning light and loud engine noises, suspecting low engine oil pressure despite normal oil levels. The initial suspicion was a defective oil pump. Another individual suggested checking the oil filter for clogs and ensuring correct oil viscosity. Ultimately, the issue was confirmed to be a failing oil pump, which required professional replacement.

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't checked the oil filter yet, but I did replace the oil recently and made sure to use the correct viscosity according to the manual. But if the oil filter is the problem, will the symptoms be exactly the same?

In my case, the symptoms were identical. Turned out my oil pump was failing and I had to take it to the workshop to get it repaired. It is better to get it checked professionally.

Appreciate the input. I'll get the oil pump checked out. I took it to the workshop. You were right: the oil pump had to be replaced. The repair came to 755€. Thanks again!

I had a similar issue with my RAV4. Same symptoms: oil pressure light and engine noise. Did you check the oil filter? A clogged filter can cause low pressure. Also, what oil viscosity are you using?
