RAV4 Overheating and Coolant Spill

My 2008 Toyota RAV4 diesel is overheating, the check engine light is on, and coolant is spilling. It only has 41730 km. The coolant spill seems due to excessive cooling system pressure. Could this be a control unit communication error? I suspect a defective cable or plug connection.

Overheating and coolant spills are definitely worrying. A control unit communication error could certainly be the culprit. Is the check engine light constantly on, or does it flash? Have you checked the CAN bus connections? It's like the nervous system of the car; if a wire is loose, weird things can happen.

The check engine light is constantly on. Regarding the CAN bus connections, is there a specific area I should focus on, or a particular control module that is more prone to connectivity issues?

Okay, a constant check engine light points to a more persistent problem. It's hard to say exactly where the issue lies without proper diagnostics, but given the symptoms, it's likely somewhere near the engine control unit. Think of it like this: a loose wire near the brain can cause problems all over the body. Honestly, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. They can pinpoint the exact problem with proper tools.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. It was indeed a defective plug connection to the control unit, causing mayhem. Repair cost me 95€.
