RAV4 Transmission Control Unit Issue

My 2019 Toyota RAV4 with a gasoline engine won't start. The check engine light is on, it has 153685 km, and the transmission seems to be slipping before failing. I scanned the error memory, and it points to the automatic transmission parking position. Could a defective transmission sensor really cause all of this?

I had a similar issue with my RAV4: check engine light, weird shifting. Have you noticed any issues with the gear shifter itself? Does it feel loose?

The gear shifter feels normal, no different than before. But the errors point to a control unit. Did yours end up being a full transmission failure, or was it something simpler like a shift lock issue?

Mine ended up being the control unit, too. Symptoms were almost identical. I'd get it checked out by a professional. Could be a transmission repair or replacement if you wait, and sensors can be tricky.

I appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop, and they diagnosed a defective control unit. Repair cost is around 1000€. Not ideal, but at least it's fixable!
