RC immobilizer errors

I've got a 2022 Lexus RC hybrid with about 154k kilometers on the clock. Lately, it's been throwing a fit and refusing to start. Sometimes it cranks briefly, then dies instantly. The error memory is packed with immobilizer errors. I'm thinking it might be the key programming gone haywire, like the car suddenly doesn’t recognize it anymore. Any ideas? It's acting like it's possessed by demons from the anti-theft system.

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my RC. The security light was doing a weird dance too. Could be your key's transponder acting up, or the car’s immobilizer module itself having a bad day. Did you try the spare key? It might help narrow down if it's the key or the car playing games with you.

Yeah, I tried the spare key, same thing. The security light does blink normally, like it should. So, if it’s not the key itself, what could cause the immobilizer to just randomly go bonkers like that? Is there some kind of reset procedure or something?

If both keys are causing the same issue, it's less likely to be the keys themselves, more likely something deeper in the system. I'd suspect the immobilizer module, or perhaps some funky wiring between it and the ECU. Honestly, after wrestling with mine, I caved and took it to a workshop. They reprogrammed the keys and checked the immobilizer. It was a quick fix, and they charged peanuts for it.

Okay, thanks for the insight. I'll bite the bullet and take it to the shop. Turns out it was exactly what you said: a simple key reprogramming. Cost me around 45€. Still frustrating that it happened at all, but at least it's sorted. Thanks again!
