RCZ Defroster Air Distribution Fault

My 2013 Peugeot RCZ, gasoline engine, has a weak defroster. It threw an error about the defrost air distribution flap. The heat output is pathetic. We jiggled wires and checked plugs around the HVAC unit, but no dice. I'm thinking it’s a bad connection, but tracing it is a nightmare. Anyone wrestled with this?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar drama with my old Vauxhall Insignia. The air distribution was all messed up. It turned out to be a dodgy connector causing the flap motor to go bonkers. Have you checked the plug that goes directly into the flap motor itself? It might be corroded or loose.

Where exactly is that flap motor located? Is it buried deep within the heater core area? I've been poking around the blower motor, and the whole dashboard panel seems complex. Any hints on where to start dismantling without turning my RCZ into a pile of plastic?

Yeah, it's usually tucked away pretty good. On my Insignia, it was near the heater core, behind some ducting. Honestly, if you're not feeling super confident diving in, and you've already scanned it and suspect a bad connection, it might be worth getting a mechanic to pinpoint it. Sometimes it's cheaper than breaking a bunch of clips and buying new dashboard panel parts!

Wise words! Sounds like I'm at that point. Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience; it confirmed what I was suspecting. I bit the bullet and took it to a local workshop. They confirmed it was a faulty plug connection on the air distribution flap – exactly as we suspected. Cost me 95€ to fix. At least now I have heat!
