RCZ diesel engine check light and power loss

I'm having a headache with my 2011 Peugeot RCZ diesel. The check engine light keeps popping on, and I've noticed a definite drop in power, especially when accelerating. To make matters worse, there's some smoke puffing out the back when I put my foot down. I'm suspecting it might be the crankcase ventilation valve – PCV valve, right? Anyone else had this issue? Could a dodgy PCV valve really cause all these problems, like reduced power and smoke?

Summary of the thread

The conversation centers around a 2011 Peugeot RCZ diesel experiencing a check engine light, power loss, and smoke during acceleration. The initial suspicion is a faulty crankcase ventilation valve (PCV valve), which could cause these issues. A similar experience with a petrol version suggests that a malfunctioning PCV valve might lead to leaks, affecting emissions and engine performance. The recommended solution is to have a professional diagnose and potentially replace the PCV valve to resolve the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my RCZ, though I've got the petrol version. Check engine light, loss of power… Sounds familiar. Is there any whistling noise coming from the engine? If so, it's very likely to be the PCV valve.

Whistling, you say? Hmmm, I haven't specifically noticed a whistling noise, but I'll definitely listen out for it next time I'm driving. Where exactly is the PCV valve located on the engine? And is there any easy way to check if it's leaking or blocked without taking everything apart?

On mine, it was a pig to get to, down at the back of the engine. Honestly, unless you're really confident, I'd take it to a workshop. They'll have the tools and knowledge to diagnose it properly. If it IS the PCV valve, it's probably causing a leak, messing with your emissions and engine performance. Best get it sorted before it causes more damage. I ended up paying around 360€ for the repair.

Thanks for the advice! I think you're right; it's probably best to get it checked out by a professional. I'll book it in at the garage and see what they say. It sounds very much like the PCV valve issue as you described it. I will let you know what they say! The crankcase ventilation was indeed the problem. Replaced and all symptoms are gone.
