RCZ diesel preheating lamp and engine light
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Peugeot RCZ diesel was experiencing issues with the preheating lamp staying on, the check engine light illuminated, and smoke during acceleration. The suspected causes included a faulty glow control unit or issues with the wiring or plug connections. After consulting with others who had similar experiences, it was advised to have the vehicle checked at a workshop. The problem was confirmed to be a defective glow control unit and plug, which was replaced, resolving the issues.

Yeah man, spot on! Cold starts are a nightmare, sounds like it's about to stall sometimes and I think I felt an engine misfire. You think it's definitely the glow control unit then? Did you manage to fix it yourself or did you take it to a garage?

Hard to say for sure without proper diagnostics, but those symptoms, especially with the preheating lamp issue point towards the glow control unit or its wiring. I'd suggest getting it checked out at a reputable workshop. They'll be able to confirm the fault and replace the unit if needed. Could save you a lot of headache in the long run.

Cheers for the advice! Took it to the local garage, and you were right on the money. Glow control unit was buggered because of a defective plug. New unit fitted, cost me 95€ all in. Runs like a dream now, no more smoke or dodgy lights! Thanks again!

Sounds familiar. I've got an RCZ diesel as well. Had similar symptoms a while back. Preheating lamp staying on, engine light... Was it also a bit rough on cold starts, maybe some engine misfire? Might be worth checking those glow plugs directly, but the control unit is a prime suspect.
