Thanks for the tip! When you say 'clean them up', do you mean just wiping them down, or is there a specific cleaning process I should follow? And did your 'check engine' light come on when you experienced the surge?

Yeah, I mean disconnect them completely, use some sandpaper or a wire brush to remove any corrosion from the terminals and the cable ends. Then reconnect them tightly. Also get some battery terminal protector spray from an auto parts store. As for the light, sometimes it flickered, but not always. But better take it to a workshop to check it out.

Turns out you were right! It was indeed bad cable connections of the battery. I cleaned them thoroughly, and the car started right up. Took it to the workshop afterwards and they confirmed and also checked the software. Repair cost me 155€. Thanks for the help!

I had a similar issue with my Renault Megane. The engine wouldn't start randomly. Check your battery connections again, especially the ground cable. I thought mine were fine too, but they were a bit corroded. Clean them up real good! It could also be the engine software needing a refresh.
