Renault Master gear shift indicator fault
Summary of the thread
The 2023 Renault Master is experiencing issues with the gear shift indicator display, making it difficult to engage gears, with erratic automatic transmission shifts and grinding noises. A diagnostic check indicated a potential defect in the control unit, causing the gear selection display to fail. A suggestion was made to inspect the wiring harness and connections to the gearbox control unit for loose connections or damaged wires. Ultimately, a workshop confirmed the control unit was defective, requiring repair.

Thanks for the suggestion. When you mention the wiring harness and connections, are you talking about the physical wires running to the control unit itself, or are there other areas to check? Also, when your display went haywire, did it affect the actual shifting, or was it just a display issue?

Yeah, the physical wires. Give them a wiggle, see if anything changes on the display. It started affecting the shifting too, becoming jerky. Get it to a workshop, sounds like the same control unit problem.

Appreciate the confirmation and advice. Sounds like you've been through something similar. I took it to a trusted workshop. They confirmed the control unit was defective, and the repair is around 1000€ Thanks again for sharing your experience!

Sounds rough. I had something similar happen with my Master, though not as many symptoms. My digital display went haywire, showing the wrong gear or nothing. Check the wiring harness and connections to the gearbox control unit. Sometimes a loose connection or damaged wire can cause weirdness with the electronic gear selector. Worth a look before replacing expensive parts.
