Renault Master Gearbox Slipping
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Renault Master with an electric engine is experiencing gearbox slipping, unresponsive paddle shifters, grinding noises, and is stuck in emergency mode, leading to error codes. The suspected cause is a faulty transmission control unit (TCU), which manages gear selection. After diagnostics at a workshop, it was confirmed that the TCU was indeed defective and required replacement.

Thanks for the reply! Error codes... I'd have to check again. But you really think it's the control unit? What exactly happened with your Volvo?

Yes, in my case, the symptoms were very similar: unclean shifting, emergency mode, and ultimately a failure to shift at all. After extensive diagnosis, the workshop confirmed that the TCU was faulty and needed replacement. I suggest you consult with a trusted workshop as well. A proper diagnostic will confirm the defective control unit.

You were spot on! Took it to the shop, and after they ran diagnostics, it was indeed the transmission control unit. Quoted me 1000€ for the repair. Ouch! Thanks for the help, at least I knew what to expect.

That sounds similar to an issue I encountered with my 2016 Volvo XC90. The transmission control unit (TCU), also known as the transmission control module (TCM), manages the automatic transmission's gear selection, relying on sensor data to determine the optimal shift points. A defective TCU can cause issues like those you've described. Were there any specific error codes that you were able to retrieve? Knowing the error codes would help diagnose the root cause.
