Renault Modus Electrical Issue

Experiencing an electrical issue with my 2008 Renault Modus diesel (40294 km). It struggles to start, and I suspect it's related to "Terminal 30 continuous plus interrupted". Could this be due to a heavily discharged or defective battery, perhaps affecting the wiring harness or starter motor? Any advice on checking the fuse box or assessing the power supply for a voltage drop?

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Renault Modus diesel is experiencing starting issues, suspected to be related to "Terminal 30 continuous plus interrupted." Possible causes include a heavily discharged or defective battery, issues with the wiring harness, or the starter motor drawing too much power. Suggestions include checking for corrosion or damage in the wiring harness, loose connections, and assessing the power supply for voltage drops. Ultimately, the problem was resolved by replacing a defective battery and fixing the wiring harness, costing 290€.

I had something similar with my Modus. Have you checked the wiring harness for any corrosion or damage? From my experience it could be something as simple as a loose connection, but it could also be that your starter motor draws too much power. Worth having a look at both. Did you check the battery?

Thanks for the input! When you had the problem, did it also manifest as an intermittent issue, or was it consistently difficult to start? The odd thing is, it's not every single time, so that's why I suspected loose connection. How exactly did you go about checking those components?

Ah, the intermittent nature is key! Mine started intermittently too. I'm no expert, but I'd advise against tinkering too much. It could be a pain to troubleshoot without the proper tools, leading to further issues. Given your symptoms and the intermittent nature, I would recommend taking it to a reliable workshop for a proper diagnosis. It will save you time and hassle in the long run.

Thanks a lot for the advice! It does sound like it's beyond my capabilities. I'll take your suggestion and bring it to a workshop. Turns out, the battery was defective, but the Wiring Harness also needed fixing. Cost me 290€, but at least it's running smoothly again.
