Thank you for your quick response! The car does indeed crank slowly when starting, and the battery voltage seems low when I tested it with a multimeter. However, I am not sure what the exact voltage should be for a fully charged battery. Is this something I can fix myself, or should I seek professional assistance?

Okay, a slow crank and low voltage strongly suggest a charging issue. While you could potentially replace the alternator yourself, it can be a bit tricky depending on its location. Plus, you'd need to know how to properly tension the belt afterwards. Given your description, I think it's best to take it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue (confirm it's the alternator) and replace it. That way, you're sure everything's done correctly, and you won't risk damaging anything else. It could also be something else draining the battery; they can test for that too.

Thank you so much for your help and advice! I took your suggestion and brought the car to a local workshop. The diagnosis confirmed a defective generator, as we suspected. The repair, including a new generator and labor, cost me 960€. It was indeed the alternator! I appreciate your help in pointing me in the right direction!

Hello! I had a similar problem with my Scenic. Reduced engine power and flickering lights, those were the exact symptoms! Does the car crank slowly when starting? That could point to the battery not getting enough charge. First, check the battery connections are clean and tight. Then, see if any other electrical components are acting strangely. If your alternator isn't charging properly, all sorts of weird things can happen. Have you checked the voltage of the battery?
