Renault Scenic Oil Level Sensor Fault

I've got a weird issue with my 2006 Renault Scenic (gasoline engine). I'm getting an error message on the speedometer, a stored error, and a warning light. Plus, the oil pressure light flickers. Diagnostics point to the oil level sensor or its signal – maybe a bad cable or plug. Anyone seen this before and know how to fix it?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Renault Scenic is experiencing an oil level sensor fault, indicated by an error message, stored error, warning light, and flickering oil pressure light. Diagnostics suggest the issue may be due to a faulty oil level sensor or its signal, potentially caused by a bad cable or plug. The recommended solution is to inspect the connections to the sensor for corrosion or damage and ensure a secure fit. If the problem persists, consulting a professional workshop is advised.

Hey, I had something similar with my old Opel Astra. Sounds like the oil level sensor is giving false readings. Like the car thinks it's low on oil when it's not. I'd start by checking the connections to the sensor. A loose or corroded connector can cause all sorts of weirdness. Think of it like a loose wire on a lamp – it might flicker or not work at all.

Thanks for the analogy! When you say 'checking the connections,' what specific areas should I look at closely? Are there particular components or wiring that tend to fail in these systems? I want to check everything.

Sure. By 'check the connections,' I mean visually inspect the connector that plugs into the oil level sensor. Unplug it, look for corrosion or damage to the pins, and make sure it's a tight fit when you plug it back in. Also, trace the wiring harness connected to the sensor as far as you can to see if there's any obvious damage to the wires themselves. If you're not comfortable with electrical stuff, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. I did that myself and it saved me time and frustration.

Thanks for the advice. I checked the connections as best I could and then took it to a shop. Turns out it was a faulty connection to the oil level sensor, just like you suspected. The repair was about 95€, which is what I expected. Your experience really helped me decide what to do.
