Renault Scenic transmission fault

I own a 2003 Renault Scenic with a gasoline engine. The engine warning light is on, and the error memory indicates a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. The gearbox seems to be in emergency mode, slipping and shifting uncleanly, accompanied by grinding noises. Could a low gearbox oil level be the cause?

Oh no, that sounds rough! A low oil level could definitely cause those symptoms. Have you checked the oil level yourself? What does it look like? Maybe also check the pressure switch wiring for damage, just in case.

I haven't checked the oil level myself yet. Where exactly is the dipstick or fill point located on this model?

Okay, without seeing it myself, I can't be sure where it is, but it's usually near the gearbox itself, but honestly, with those symptoms and that error code, and you're unsure where to check it, I think you really should take it to a workshop. It sounds like it could get expensive quickly.

Thank you for your advice. I took it to a workshop as suggested. It turned out the oil level was indeed low, causing the pressure sensor fault. The repair, including top-up and sensor check, cost 365€.
