Renault Scenic Turbo Issues

Hey, I'm having a nightmare with my 2005 Renault Scenic, gasoline engine. Check engine light's on, power's way down, and it feels like the engine's gonna stall every time I stop! Plus, my gas mileage has gone to hell. It also sounds like a tea kettle whistling when I accelerate, and then a loud hiss. I'm guessing it's something to do with the turbo? Could a dodgy throttle body cause this?

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my Saab, although it was a diesel. Turned out to be a wastegate issue. Is the turbo actually boosting? Any noticeable lag?

Wastegate? I've been reading about those! How did you figure out it was the wastegate? And yeah, the lag is terrible. Feels like I'm driving a naturally aspirated lawnmower sometimes.

Well, the Saab tech mentioned wastegate actuator failure was common. Your symptoms, especially the hissing, suggest possible boost leak or the wastegate not closing properly. Get it checked at a workshop. Could be a simple fix, could be worse. Don't keep driving it like that.

Cheers! You were spot on. Took it to the shop, and it was indeed a defective wastegate valve. Cost me 860€ to fix, but at least it's running properly again. Massive thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
