Renault Spider Overheating

I'm having trouble with my 1999 Renault Spider with a gasoline engine. It's overheating, the check engine light is on, and there's a coolant spill, probably from too much pressure. I think it might be a control unit communication error. Could a bad cable or plug be the problem?

I had similar issues on my 2008 Saab 9-3, diesel engine: overheating, check engine light, and coolant leak. The error code pointed to a data link problem, and it turned out to be a corroded connector in the engine control module circuit. Did you get any error codes?

Yes, I got an error code about a communication fault in the control unit network. Where was the corroded connector in your Saab's engine control module circuit?

The connector was near the firewall in the engine bay. But a Saab is different from your Renault Spider, so be careful assuming it's the same spot. I'd get a technician to check the control unit's cable and plug connections to be safe. I went to a workshop, and they replaced the wire in an hour.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a technician, and they found a bad cable connection in the engine control unit circuit, just like you said. The repair was only 95€, and now the engine runs great. The problems are gone. Thanks again!
