Renault Wind Camshaft Sensor Error
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Renault Wind is experiencing rough starts, stalling at idle, and a check engine light, with a diagnostic scan revealing a camshaft sensor error (P0340). The issue may be related to the camshaft sensor or the encoder wheel on the camshafts. While checking the wiring and connectors is suggested, the complexity of the problem may require professional diagnosis and repair, as it could involve more than a simple sensor replacement.

Thanks for the tip! The error code is P0340, which points directly to the camshaft sensor. I did check the wiring quickly, didn't see anything obvious like frayed wires, but I'm no expert. Where exactly should I be looking for the wiring and connectors, and is there a way to test them without special tools? I'm just trying to avoid getting ripped off by a mechanic if it's something simple.

P0340 pretty much confirms the camshaft sensor then. Honestly, if you're not super confident with electrical stuff, and you've already checked the obvious wiring, you're probably better off taking it to a workshop. These sensors can be tricky, and if the encoder wheel is damaged, it's not a DIY job. Better to get it diagnosed properly than risk making it worse. I ended up doing that in my case.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I was hoping it would be a simple fix, but it sounds like it could be more complicated. I'll take it to my local workshop, they say the camshaft sensor is defective, encoder wheel too. Repair is gonna cost 695€. Thanks again for the help!

Sounds familiar. I had almost the same symptoms with my old Opel Corsa – rough starts, stalling, check engine light. Turned out to be a faulty crankshaft sensor in my case, not the camshaft one. But these sensors are often related. It might be worth checking the wiring and connectors to the sensor before assuming the sensor itself is bad. Could be a simple fix. What error code exactly?
