Rich Air Fuel Ratio Symptoms

My 2007 Ford Falcon with a gasoline engine has covered 197376 km. I suspect an excessively rich air-fuel ratio. Symptoms include reduced engine power, check engine light, rough running, poor fuel economy, and jerking during acceleration. I think it's a defective injection valve. Has anyone seen this?

Hey, I've got a Falcon too and those symptoms sound familiar! Have you checked your air filter recently? A clogged filter can mess with the air-fuel ratio. Is your fuel economy way worse than usual, or just a little bit?

The air filter was replaced about 5000 km ago, so I don't think that's it. Fuel economy is down about 15%, and the exhaust smells really strong. Does that match what you saw?

Yeah, the bad smell is a good indicator. Mine was doing the exact same thing, plus the check engine light was driving me nuts. Honestly, after chasing a few possible causes myself, I just took it to a workshop. Turned out to be faulty injectors. Definitely worth getting it checked out properly.

Thanks, that confirms my diagnosis. I'll get it checked by a technician soon. I had it repaired, cost 515€.
