Ridgeline NOx catalyst aging error
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Honda Ridgeline with a gasoline engine is experiencing a check engine light due to a NOx storage catalyst aging error, accompanied by an exhaust leak. The aging error suggests the catalytic converter isn't effectively reducing nitrogen oxides, potentially due to the exhaust leak affecting oxygen sensor readings. Repairing the exhaust leak is recommended to resolve the issue.

Fuel efficiency seems normal. How would an exhaust leak cause a catalyst aging error?

The leak introduces extra oxygen into the exhaust stream. This messes with the air/fuel mixture and the catalytic converter's ability to properly reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx). The sensors detect the imbalance, and the system thinks the catalyst is failing when it's really just being affected by the leak. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a workshop.

Thanks for the info. It was indeed a leak in the exhaust system. Repair cost was 265€.

The NOx storage catalyst is part of your catalytic converter. It helps reduce nitrogen oxides, which are bad for the environment. If it's aging, it means it's not working as well as it should. That can trigger the check engine light. An exhaust leak could definitely be the cause, because it throws off the oxygen sensor readings, which can affect how the catalytic converter works. Have you noticed any changes in fuel efficiency?
