Rifter Boost Pressure Actuator Issue

My 2023 Peugeot Rifter gasoline engine has a perplexing issue. The check engine light is on and engine power is reduced with sluggish response. I hear a faint whistling that becomes a loud hissing when I accelerate. Sometimes the engine stalls at idle, and fuel consumption has increased. The vehicle has 52451 km on it. I suspect a fault with the boost pressure actuator, possibly an electrical bypass valve malfunction. Could this be related to the turbocharger or a pressure sensor?

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Peugeot Rifter experienced reduced engine power, increased fuel consumption, and a check engine light, accompanied by a faint whistling and loud hissing noise during acceleration. The suspected issue was a fault with the boost pressure actuator, possibly involving an electrical bypass valve malfunction. After inspection and diagnosis at a workshop, a defective electrical bypass valve within the boost pressure actuator was confirmed and replaced, resolving the issues and restoring normal engine operation.

Those symptoms do sound like it could be boost related. The whistling/hissing plus the power loss points that way. Have you checked for any obvious leaks in the turbo hoses or intercooler? Also, is the whistling there all the time, or just under load?

I inspected the hoses and intercooler, but I couldn't find any visible cracks or apparent leaks. The whistling is subtle at idle, almost inaudible, but becomes significantly louder and turns into a distinct hissing sound when I accelerate. Is there a straightforward way to test the turbo actuator or the wastegate without special tools?

Testing the actuator without proper tools is tricky. Given the hissing under load and the other symptoms, the actuator or a related sensor issue seems very plausible. It could also be the turbo itself, but I would get it checked by a shop, especially with the stalling. Don't want to cause more damage.

I took your suggestion and brought my Rifter to a workshop. The diagnosis confirmed a defective electrical bypass valve within the boost pressure actuator. The repair cost about 250€. Replacing the faulty component resolved all the issues. The engine now operates smoothly, the check engine light is off, and the fuel consumption has returned to normal. I appreciate your assistance!
