Rifter check engine light and stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Peugeot Rifter diesel is experiencing a check engine light, occasional stalling when idling, and reduced fuel efficiency. A local mechanic suggested a possible fuel tank ventilation system leak. Another owner with similar issues identified the cause as a defective activated charcoal filter in the EVAP system, which can lead to ventilation problems. The recommended solution is to have the activated charcoal filter checked and replaced if necessary, which resolved the issue for both owners at a cost of 275€.

Thanks for the reply! I haven't noticed any fuel smells or hissing, to be honest. I've got 71070 km on the clock. What was the cause of the issue in your case?

Right, mine was the activated charcoal filter in the EVAP system. Apparently, they can become defective, causing ventilation problems and triggering those symptoms. Considering our similar issues, I'd recommend getting that checked. A workshop with proper diagnostic tools should be able to confirm it. Cost me around 275€ to repair.

Thanks a lot for the info! I'll get the activated charcoal filter checked out. It's good to have a direction to give to the workshop. Indeed it was the charcoal filter. Apparently a common fault. Cost me exactly 275€ to get it fixed!

Hey there, I have a Rifter too, and your issue sounds familiar. I also had the check engine light and stalling problems. Have you noticed any unusual fuel smells or hissing sounds near the fuel tank? Also, how many kilometers are on your Rifter?
