Rifter Glow Control Unit Fault

I've got a 2019 Peugeot Rifter diesel with 224499 km on the clock. Recently, the preheating lamp doesn't switch off, and the check engine light is constantly on. I've also noticed some smoke when accelerating. I've run a diagnostic test and it's pointing towards a defective glow control unit. I've checked the glow plugs and the battery, but no luck. Anyone experienced similar engine misfire issues? I suspect a faulty cable or plug connection.

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Peugeot Rifter diesel exhibited issues with the preheating lamp not switching off, a persistent check engine light, and smoke during acceleration. A diagnostic test indicated a defective glow control unit. Despite checking the glow plugs and battery, the problem persisted, leading to suspicions of a faulty cable or plug connection. After further inspection and professional evaluation, the issue was confirmed to be a faulty glow control unit and a corroded connector, which were repaired, resolving the problem.

Defective glow control units are common. Did the diagnostic specify which glow plug is the culprit? Before replacing the unit, have you checked the wiring harness and connections to the glow plugs and control unit for corrosion or damage? Also, what is the ambient temperature like where you are?

The diagnostic didn't specify a particular glow plug, just flagged the control unit. I visually inspected the wiring and plugs – nothing obvious jumped out, but I'll give them a closer look. As for the ambient temperature, it's been around 5-10°C lately. Does temperature affect the glow control unit?

Given the symptoms and fault code, and if you've ruled out obvious wiring issues, the control unit itself is likely the problem. In those conditions and with that mileage I'd wager that the unit is simply past its prime. Time to head to a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local workshop. They confirmed your suspicions – faulty glow control unit and a corroded connector. Total repair cost was 95€ including parts and labor. Problem solved!
